HP Judicial Service Examination - Qualification

 

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Law Degree: You need to have a law degree recognized by the Bar Council of India.

  2. Citizenship: You must be an Indian citizen.

 

Age Limit:

  • General Requirement: You should be at least 22 years old but not older than 35 years by the deadline for submitting the online application.

 

Age Relaxation:

  • For SC/ST/OBC (Himachal Pradesh): There's an age relaxation of 3 years.
     

  • Other Categories: No age relaxation, except for application fees.

 

Important Notes:

  • Birth Date Proof: Only the birth date listed on your 10th class certificate or an equivalent document is accepted. Changes to this date won't be allowed later.
     

  • Accuracy: Make sure to accurately enter your birth date on the application. Mistakes found later could lead to penalties under the Commission's rules.
     

  • Bonafide Certificate: Bonafide Himachali Certificate in case of reserved category candidates.

Disqualification for Examination:.

 

No candidates shall be eligible for admission to the examination:-

 

i. If he/she has been dismissed from any previous service;
 

ii. If he/she has been convicted of any offence involving moral turpitude or has been permanently debarred/disqualified from appearing in any examination or selection;
 

iii. If he/she is found either directly or indirectly influencing the selection process in any manner;
 

iv. If he is a man having more than one wife living and if a woman, has married a man already having another wife; or
 

v. If he/she is an un-discharged solvent

Scheme of Examination for Himachal Judicial Service

 

It Consist of three phase: - 

1. Prelims Examination(Objective)
2. Mains Examination(Subjective)
3. Viva­voce (Oral Interview)

 

Preliminary Examination Overview:

Format: The preliminary exam is objective, with multiple-choice questions.


Papers: There are three papers, each worth 100 marks and lasting one hour:

  1. Civil Law-I

  2. Civil Law-II

  3. Criminal Law


Scoring:

  • Each paper has 100 questions, with 1 mark per question.

  • There's no negative marking for incorrect answers.
     

Schedule: All three papers will be conducted on the same day.
 

Syllabus: The syllabus for the preliminary exam is the same as Papers I to III of the Main Examination.

Mains Examination Overview​

​

A total of 5 paper as mentioned Below totalling 850 marks. 

Important points for Mains:

  • Bare Copies of legislative enactments only will be supplied.
     

  • Minimum qualifying marks are 40% for each paper except for the Hindi language paper (Paper-V), where it is 33%.
     

  • To qualify in the main examination, a candidate must obtain 45% marks in aggregate across all papers and at least 33% in the Hindi language paper.
     

  • The standard of the English Paper shall be that of graduation examination of Himachal Pradesh University.
     

  • The standard for language paper shall be that of matriculation examination of the H.P. Board of School Education.

Viva-Voce Overview:

  1. Eligibility: Only candidates who pass the Main Written Examination will be called for the Viva-Voce test.
     

  2. Marks: The Viva-Voce carries a total of 150 marks. These marks will be added to the Main Examination scores for final selection.
     

  3. Selection: Passing the Viva-Voce doesn't guarantee selection. The final appointment is made by the Government.
     

  4. Minimum Marks: You must score at least 45% in the Viva-Voce to qualify. Falling short means you haven't passed the competitive examination.
