Examination Structure

The Madhya Pradesh Judicial Service Exam is a three-tier process comprising the Preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and the Interview. Each stage demands a focused and strategic preparation approach to ensure success.

 

Preliminary Examination Strategy

1. Syllabus Coverage: The Preliminary Examination is a qualifying test consisting of 150 marks with no negative marking. It includes multiple-choice questions from law subjects, general knowledge, English, and computer awareness.

2. General Knowledge:

   • Current Affairs: Maintain a daily diary to jot down important headlines and events. Refer to newspapers like The Hindu and Dainik Bhaskar. Utilize free online resources.

   • General Awareness: Focus on Indian history, particularly ancient and modern history, geography, and significant national parks, dams, and institutions. Books like Lucent’s General Knowledge can be highly beneficial.

   • Madhya Pradesh Specific GK: Study from comprehensive resources like Arihant’s book on Madhya Pradesh to cover the state's history, geography, rivers, national parks, and current affairs specific to the state.

Main Examination Strategy

1. In-Depth Study: The Main Examination consists of four papers, each of 100 marks. These papers cover substantive law, procedural law, and language translation.

2. Substantive and Procedural Law:

   • Comprehensive Reading: Utilise standard textbooks such as Ratanlal & Dhirajlal for IPC, Kelkar for CrPC, Mulla for CPC, and Avtar Singh for Contract Law. Ensure to cover every section and important case laws.

3. Answer Writing Practice:

   • Regular Practice: Dedicate at least two to three hours daily for writing practice. Solve previous years’ papers from different states to get a variety of questions and formats.

4. Language Translation and Essay Writing:

2. Mock Interviews: Participate in mock interviews to build confidence and improve communication skills. Practise answering personality-based, opinion-based, and practical legal questions.

3. Practical Knowledge: Be prepared for situational questions and practical applications of the law. Review your legal knowledge and understand how to apply it in real-world scenarios.

 

General Tips

1. Consistent Revision: Regular revision is crucial for retaining information. Allocate time daily or weekly for revisiting important topics.

2. Health Management: Balancing physical and mental health is essential. Ensure regular exercise, a proper diet, and adequate sleep to maintain high levels of concentration and productivity.
