Eligibility and Age

The Assam Judicial Service Examination is a prestigious examination conducted to recruit candidates for Grade-III judicial service positions in the state of Assam, India. 

Eligibility Criteria:
 

  1. Educational Qualification:

    • Candidates must hold a Degree in Law granted by a recognized university established by law in India. The degree should be obtained from an institution recognized by the Bar Council of India.
       

  2. Citizenship:

    • Candidates must be citizens of India as defined in Articles 5 & 6 of the Constitution of India.
       

Age Limit:

The age limit for candidates appearing in the Assam Judicial Service Examination varies based on their category:
 

  1. General Category:

    • Candidates belonging to the general category must not have completed 38 years of age as of the last date fixed for receipt of applications.
       

  2. Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Category:

    • Candidates belonging to SC/ST must not have completed 43 years of age as of the last date fixed for receipt of applications.

Exam Pattern

The Grade-III Assam Judicial Service examination follows a comprehensive pattern designed to assess candidates' knowledge, aptitude, language proficiency, and suitability for judicial roles. The examination consists of three stages:
 

Preliminary Examination:

  • Type: Objective type questions

  • Total Marks: 100

  • This stage comprises objective-type questions covering a wide range of subjects including General Knowledge, English, and various laws such as the Constitution of India, Indian Penal Code, and Law of Torts.

  • A proficiency test in the official language(s) of Assam, specifically Assamese, is also included in this stage.

  • Candidates who secure at least 60% marks in this stage qualify for the Main Written Examination.
     

Main Written Examination:

  • Total paper - 5
    Total marks - 500

  • The Main Examination consists of five papers covering English, General Knowledge, and various laws including Constitution of India, Code of Civil Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act.

  • There is also a paper to test proficiency in the official language(s) of Assam, which is qualifying in nature.

  • Candidates must obtain minimum marks in each paper and qualify the language paper to be eligible for the interview stage.​

Interview/Viva Voce:

  • The final stage involves a personal interview to evaluate candidates' communication skills, personality traits, and suitability for the judicial service.

  • Candidates must secure at least 60% marks in the interview to be considered for final selection.

  • The final evaluation is based on the overall performance of candidates in all stages of the examination, with merit being a significant factor in the selection process.

Code of Civil Procedure:

Transfer of Property Act:
